Dapitan CDRRMO swiftly responds to citizen's concerns, secures loose boulder

Dapitan City, Philippines - January 2, 2024 - Prompt action by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) has averted a potential disaster in Barangay Sinonnoc, Dapitan City. Following a concerned citizen's report on the City Information Division, City Government of Dapitan Facebook page, the CDRRMO swiftly assessed a large boulder posing a threat to residents.


Mr. Michael Tome, the vigilant citizen, alerted authorities about the unstable boulder positioned dangerously near houses. Recognizing the potential danger, the CDRRMO immediately dispatched a team to evaluate the situation. Their assessment confirmed Mr. Tome's concerns, highlighting the risk of serious injury or property damage in case the boulder dislodged.


"Acting on the information received, we promptly deployed our personnel to assess the situation," stated Engr. Nelson Quimiguing, Dapitan CDRRM Officer. "Upon verification, we found the boulder indeed posed a significant hazard to the surrounding community."



Taking immediate action, the CDRRMO issued a warning to residents nearby, urging them to avoid the area for safety. Simultaneously, the CDRRMO coordinated with the City Engineering Office to initiate a controlled removal operation of the boulder.

"We commend Mr. Tome's alertness and prompt reporting," Engr. Quimiguing continued. "His vigilance helped us identify and address the potential threat before it could lead to any unfortunate incident. This underscores the importance of community involvement in disaster risk reduction and preparedness."

The City Engineering Office is currently preparing for the removal operation, prioritizing the safety of both personnel and residents. They have assured a swift and efficient resolution to mitigate the hazard.
